I saw a post on Instagram the other day by @imaginetheresnoplastic a community art project & action that hopes to inspire people to rethink the straw. Their art project seems to be inspired by the Imagine Mosaic at the center of Strawberry Fields in Central Park in New York. They have cleverly created a similar mosaic using straws and plastic waste as the outer circle.
It gave me an ear worm though. I couldn’t get John Lennon’s Imagine out of my head, (Although, TBH, it’s Eddie Vedder’s version I love more. He’s hot at the best of times but this vid is next level )

Anyway, new lyrics wouldn’t leave me, so I wrote them down. I think there are too many verses to be authentic, but what are you going to do. At least they are not roaming free in my mind anymore. #MadnessTakesItsToll
Apologies to John Lennon
Imagine there’s no plastic
It’s tricky, but please try
No straws in sodas
No balloons in the sky
Imagine all the dolphins eating only fish
*
Imagine plastic bottles
As relics of the past.
Nothing to clog the oceans
‘Cos trash forever lasts
Imagine all the turtles, swimming free of waste
*
You may say I’m a greenie
But I’m hoping you are one
Who hopes someday we will wake up
And all the plastic will be gone
*
Imagine all the whales
Not dying on the beach
From ingesting plastic
Instead we’d see them breech
Imagine all the coffee, drunk without a lid
*
You may say I’m a greenie
But I’m hoping you are one
And that soon you will refuse too
And all the plastic will be gone.
*
Imagine all the seabirds
Stomachs free of bags
Nothing to starve or choke them
All micro plastics banned
Imagine what a difference each of us could make
*
You may say I’m a greenie
And I’m hoping you are one
And that soon you will refuse too
And all the plastic will be gone.
